Phil Spencer, head executive of Microsoft’s Xbox division, isn’t particularly thrilled about NTF projects in gaming. Thus far, anyway.

During an interview with Axios, Spencer shared his thoughts on the current state of NFT gaming.

“What I’d say today on NFT, all up, is I think there’s a lot of speculation and experimentation that’s happening, and that some of the creative that I see today feels more exploitive than about entertainment,” Spencer said via Axios. “I don’t think it necessitates that every NFT game is exploitive. I just think we’re kind of in that journey of people figuring it out.”

Not many notable game development studios have toe-dipped into the world of NFTs yet and for a good reason. Behaviour Interactive faced tremendous blowback from fans after announcing an  NFT collaboration in Dead By Daylight. Even a developer behind asymmetrical horror rival Friday the 13th: The Game  took a chance to roast Behaviour over it.

Spencer didn’t outright disapprove of NFTs but he’s not keen on having them on Xbox at this point either.

“I think anything that we looked at in our storefront that we said is exploitive would be something that we would, you know, take action on,” Spencer said via Axios. “We don’t want that kind of content.”

Valve Software recently  banned all NFTs and cryptocurrency from Steam, likely over the same concerns Spencer has. Though Tim Sweeny said  blockchain titles are welcome on the Epic Games Store
